Make your Instagram Reels, static posts, and carousels discoverable on Google.

PSA: Check your settings. Instagram’s latest update means your content can now appear on Google.

If your marketing strategy lives entirely on social media and SEO has been on the back burner, this is a game-changer. Instagram now allows Reels, static posts, and carousels to be indexed by search engines, which means your content can reach audiences outside the app, directly on Google.

Here’s how to make sure your content is discoverable:

Check your settings: Settings → Account → Sharing & Remixes → “Allow search engine indexing”

We’re currently testing this across both client accounts and our own to understand the impact of keyword placement. Our approach? Adding keywords to the bottom of captions to protect brand voice and reader experience while boosting SEO value.

Tips to optimise your content:

  • Clean up your bio

  • Add relevant keywords to captions and bio

  • Include your location if you’re a service-based business

  • Use descriptive alt text when posting (found under Advanced Settings)

Taking these steps ensures your Instagram content works harder for you, reaching beyond the app to new audiences and potential customers. If you’re ready to work with an agency that keeps its finger on the pulse of platform updates to help you stay ahead of the curve, get in touch us.
